Can a power station run a CPAP?
Often, yes, if it has an AC outlet and covers your machine’s power needs. This page’s 56.1 W × 8-hour example uses about 449 Wh before conversion losses. Confirm with your CPAP maker and doctor.

Models that meet this
Filter: AC outlet, at least 587 Wh capacity and 104 W continuous AC output. The 56.1 W × 8-hour example needs 448.8 Wh ÷ (0.90 × 0.85) ≈ 587 Wh using this page’s loss assumptions; 104 W covers the cited AirSense 10 peak.
Confirm with your CPAP maker and doctor.
Often, yes, if the station has an AC outlet: ResMed lists a typical power consumption of 56.1 W for the AirSense 11 (73.2 W peak) and 53 W for the AirSense 10 (104 W peak), well under the 300 W or more continuous rating of every station we list that has an AC outlet. Using our runtime calculator’s formula, those 17 stations would run a 56.1 W load for about 3 to 24 hours, and your own machine’s pressure and humidifier settings change the real draw. Before you rely on a power station, confirm with your doctor and your CPAP maker; ResMed says it doesn’t currently endorse any third-party battery solutions for the AirSense 11.
This page explains power arithmetic only. It is not medical advice. Your doctor and your CPAP maker decide whether and how you should run your machine from a battery.
Check with your doctor and your CPAP maker first
The FDA’s advice for home medical devices is to read your user instructions, or call your distributor or the device maker, to find out whether your device can be used with batteries or a generator. The FDA also says to tell your electric company and fire department that you have a medical device that needs power, and to check that your device’s settings haven’t changed when power returns. The FDA has a free power outage planning booklet for people who use medical devices that need electricity.
How much power does a CPAP use?
It depends on the machine and its settings, so start with your own machine’s manual or power supply label. ResMed’s user guides list a typical power consumption of 56.1 W and a peak of 73.2 W for the AirSense 11 with its 65 W power supply, and a typical 53 W and a peak of 104 W for the AirSense 10 with its 90 W power supply. To estimate energy for a night, multiply watts by hours: 56.1 W × 8 hours is about 449 Wh before any conversion losses.
Where to find your number: look in the technical specifications of your machine’s user guide, or on the label of its power supply. ResMed gives both a power supply rating (65 W for the AirSense 11) and a separate typical figure (56.1 W), so use the typical figure when your maker lists one. Philips’ DreamStation 2 manual lists its AC input (100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 2.0–1.0 A) rather than a typical watt figure, so we don’t estimate a DreamStation 2 runtime.
Does the CPAP humidifier change how long a power station lasts?
The makers say it matters, but the pages we cite don’t give a separate watt figure for it. ResMed’s AirSense 10 user guide says that if you use an external battery, you should turn the Humidity Level to Off to maximize the life of your battery. Philips’ DreamStation 2 manual says a battery pack does not support humidification and that an 80 W power supply is required to support humidification. Ask your doctor before you change any therapy setting.
AC outlet or DC cable?
The hours below use a station’s AC outlet, so they include the 85% inverter-efficiency planning figure from our calculator. CPAP makers also sell DC options. ResMed’s Air11 DC/DC converter connects an AirSense 11 to a vehicle’s 12 V or 24 V auxiliary power outlet, and ResMed recommends a deep-cycle battery with it. ResMed’s battery guide, written for its earlier machines, strongly recommends DC-to-DC converters over DC-to-AC inverters for running its machines from a battery. Philips says to use only a Philips Respironics DC power cord and battery adapter cable with the DreamStation 2. We don’t estimate DC runtimes. Whether a power station’s DC port suits your machine is a question for your CPAP maker.
Estimated hours for all 18 stations
Listed A–Z by brand. Capacity, continuous output and idle-draw figures are each maker’s, as shown on our product pages. Hours use our calculator’s formula: capacity × 90% depth of discharge × 85% inverter efficiency ÷ (CPAP watts + listed idle draw). Nights use 8 hours, the night length ResMed’s battery guide uses for battery sizing. Rounded to one decimal place. These are arithmetic estimates, not tests.
| Station | Capacity | Continuous AC | Idle draw | 56.1 W (AirSense 11 typical) | 53 W (AirSense 10 typical) | 8-hour nights at 56.1 W |

Every station in the table with an AC outlet lists a continuous rating of at least 300 W, above the 104 W peak ResMed lists for the AirSense 10 and the 73.2 W peak for the AirSense 11. The Anker SOLIX C300 DC lists no AC outlet, so it has no AC estimate here.
Estimate your own
Open the runtime calculator, pick a station and choose the CPAP example. It starts at 50 W, running all the time; replace that with the typical watts in your machine’s manual. If you plan to run other things at the same time, What size power station do I need for a power outage? shows how to add them up.
